Professor Sierra was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. He received his B.A. in Education from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1988. After teaching middle school in Madrid and Alcalá de Henaves, he came to the United States to pursue a M. A. in Spanish which he recieved from Syracuse University in 1998. His area of specialization is contemporary Latin American Literature, with an emphasis on Cuba. His research interests include race and queer studies, film studies, second language acquisition and bilingualism. Professor Sierra has taught a wide range of Spanish courses, and now is working in developing a course on Hispanic Music and Texts. He is the author of the article on Reinaldo Arenas in the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in the United States.
