PORT 102.000- Elementary Portuguese II
Ana Santos MF 10:40am-1130am; W 9:35am-10:25am
Portuguese 102 is a beginning-level integrated skills language course that is a continuation of Portuguese 101.  This course helps students to continue developing a basic ability to communicate in Portuguese. Class time is dedicated to interactive activities that allow students to acquire skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Through these activities and readings, students are also introduced to many aspects of everyday Brazilian culture. Exposure to the context in which Portuguese is used outside Brazil, (i.e. Portugal and Lusophone African countries) is also introduced. Class meets four times per week and is conducted in Portuguese in order to maximize exposure to the language. Language lab activities are also incorporated in order to develop students' listening skills and pronunciation.

PORT 202.000 - Intermediate Portuguese II
Ana Santos MWF 12:50pm-1:40pm

This course is a continuation of Portuguese 201 and is designed to further develop students' Portuguese skills at the intermediate level.  During the semester, students refine their grammar usage through continued review of basic structures and are introduced to more complex aspects of the language. In addition, they expand their spoken Portuguese skills through presentations, discussions and analysis of cultural topics, current events, and literary and journalistic texts. Students are provided opportunities for focused listening through use of recorded texts (interviews, music, video) and for oral expression through general classroom and small-group discussions and oral reports.  Readings in the course focus on both historical and current cultural and social issues in the Lusophone speaking world, and conclude with the reading of a literary piece.  Writing is also developed as a communicative endeavor, with emphasis on the preparation of formal compositions and informal writing assignments.
